About 1,000 Norwich Union workers are to be transferred to another firm under plans to outsource the of life and pension policies.


The move will affect employees in Norwich and Stevenage who will be based in their offices but work for Swiss Re.


Amicus Union officials said the transfer would create “disruption and uncertainty” for staff.


Norwich Union described the move as a “major strategic development”.


‘Retain jobs’


Chief executive Mark Hodges said: “This agreement will enable us to improve customer service further and make us a much more efficient organisation.”


Amicus regional officer Andy Case said: “Given Norwich Union’s track record on redundancy and off-shoring, at least this time around staff will retain their jobs.


“We will do all we can to ensure that staff who transfer do so on the best possible terms.”


Life and pension policy business employee health insurance small and their funds will remain managed by Norwich Union.


Norwich Union is the UK’s largest insurer.
